Crafting the magnetic Titles for blog posts is not rocket science. You can develop the skill of writing traffic-driving Headlines through continuous practices.

Creating compelling titles is an integral part of content optimization strategies. It is an element of On-Page SEO.

Brian Clark, the CEO of Copyblogger, has nicely explained the importance of writing a great headline that may inspire you. he said-

''Writing a great headline doesn’t guarantee the success of your writing......But great body content with a bad or even marginal headline is doomed to go largely unread''.

While creating titles of the blog posts or youtube videos, I follow the 5 Golden Rules:

1. Keep the headlines ready in advance

When the thought of creating content for a topic first comes to my mind, I create 3 titles and save them. 

A few days or weeks later, When I start writing content, I analyze them with the help of title analyzer software and choose the best one. It saves me time and keeps me focused on the context while creating content.

2. Emphasis on unique creative titles

Last week I posted a list-based (number-based) content on blog monetization on techazu. Instead of those ways, I have chosen 5+1 Ways of Blog Monetization, which is a unique headline.

3. Shorter is the smarter

How to define a short title?

In a short headline, the letters count, words count, and the pixel length should be within specified limits. However, if it is too small, the SEO score will be low, so be careful about it.

So what are the specified limits? It may vary from person to person.
What are the limits that I follow is:
  • pixels: 480-560
  • words: 6-8 (standard words)
  • characters:-50-55

4. A perfect blend with the keyword, power word, and sentimental word

The title of your post should include words that motivate the audience to read the entire article. On the other hand, the SEO aspect shouldn't be overlooked.

Although I'm not favoring over-focusing on the SEO, a keyword-rich title is essential to appear the content on the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).

5. Select the Right Format that fits the context of your blog post

The following blogging statistics may help to decide on what types of Headlines you should write for your blog posts.
 
  • 36% of readers prefer list-based headlines.
  • The “how-to” headline is the third most popular headline preference at around 17%.
  • Having a hyphen or colon in the headline increased click-through rates by 9%.
  • Making your headline 6-8 words can increase your CTR by 21%.

I'm going to describe 10 trending Headline formats, although there are many.

1. 'Number' Format/ Listicles

This is the readers' favorite, promising, and the highest clickable type of headline. This format can attract the attention of readers, as they can predict the length of the content, quality of information, and more about the content.

New bloggers love to create this type of heading as writing this is easy. Make a plan on how many points you want to cover and place the number before the title.

2. 'The Guide' Format

This format suitable when your content is about to teach something to your targeted audience. The common practice is to add any of the following phrases to the headline:

The Ultimate Guide ...
Master Guide ...
A Step by Step Guide ...
Advanced Guide...

In this blog, you'll find the headlines of this type.

3. 'How To' Format

This is one of the most popular headlines which offer the solution to search queries. This type of title promises to provide information on how to do a thing. As mentioned earlier, it is the third most popular headline.

The title of this article I'm writing now comes under this category. It offers the best solution to write the catchy headlines of blog posts like a superstar blogger.

''Why'' type of headline is also promising that provides information backed by logic and/or evidence.

I haven't yet created this type of headline on this blog. But, on my Youtube channel, you'll get it.


5. 'You Need to Know' Format

Writing this type of headline is easy. 
You can convert a generic title to this format by placing the phrase 'you need to know' in the beginning or end.

This type of tile promises the target audience to present some information that may be essential to them.

Example: You need to know the importance of Website Audit.

6. 'Techniques/Strategies/Ways' Format

For advanced level teaching, this kind of headline is appropriate. You can use a power word or an emotional word in the first place. That's a great advantage of this type.

Words like Skyscraper, Amazing, Groundbreaking, Awesome are often used in this format.


7. 'Mistake to Avoid' Format

This headline promises to save the audience from doing the wrong things or doing something in the wrong ways. 

This title appeals to the reader to read the content to get rid of the fatal mistake.

It conveys the message that content can protect readers from serious mistakes. So it increases the tendency to click.

This type of header helps grow confidence to read the content. When your content is about a controversial topic, this type is suitable. For the Health and Fitness Blog, this is a great format that works.

9. Contextual/Keyword Title

In this category, the keyword(s) or phrase is placed just before the headline, separated by a colon.

For writing this type of headline, you need to start with Keyword Research.


10. 'The Best' Format

Marketers in many affiliates almost promote their products on this headline. This does not mean that it is exclusive to them. 

You can use this title to express your best experience in different fields such as  ''The Best Movie I have ever watched'', or ''The Best location I have ever traveled to''. 

From my life experience, I can create an excellent article with the title ''The Best Anniversary I have ever participated.

From the SEO Perspective, the Headline with Title Case is good. Never use UPPERCASE as it creates inconvenience to read.

Capitals 21%
Lowercase 7%
No preference 8%

If I have a good blog post with a bad or average title on my site, how to fix it?

Ans.

Re-analyze the title with additions and alteration of appropriate words and update it. In extreme, you can change the title as if that's new content.

Question-3. 

What is the CTR of the content with an excellent Title?

Ans.

The statistic says it is only2O% and the rest won't click on the title to read your article. So, you may lose up to 80% of traffic if you don't have an appealing headline for your blog post.

There are lots of different headline templates. Are these templates useful?
As a new blogger, you can use a template in the initial stage. Writing a title with a template has the following disadvantages:

  • Monotonous and Duplicate 

If thousands or millions of people use a template to create a headline of a topic, what will be the outcomes?

  • Lack of creativity
